Comics

Comics are an excellent resource to develop creativity in students, encourage communication, writing and reading skills, stimulate image creation, promote the ability to synthesize... among other competences.

Here are some useful online tools for creating comics:

Pixton offers templates for the creation of comics. The user must first register and then he select the type of comic (fast, classic, large format, freestyle...). Then he select the template that best suits him , he choose the characters and he create a new page with the comic in editable version (modify title, characters, balloons and texts).

GoAnimate offers the possibility of including music and creating characters.

Toondo allows you to use elements and characters of the application and allows you to create your own. It requires the person to create a user. It is possible to create a library with several comics and publish them in a blog or web page.

Comic strip it! (app for Android) allows you to use the images of the gallery or take new photos directly in the Comic.  The Comic can be shared on all social platforms.


I have created a comic using PIXTON. I love this tool because you have a lot of different places and characters to use! I chose a class to create my comic but you have other options like supermarket, cinema, playground, football match... Once you have chosen your environment you can modify all the things you want and you can add other objects to the scene. I have choosen two main characters but I really love all the characters that it has because there are aliens or animals that you can add to your comic!  You can personalize your characters too, not only their movements and expressions also their hair, clothes... You can change any detail to create a perfect comic.

What I like the most is to can find expressions, places, characters... using a magnifying glass which reduce the wasted time looking for all the options. For example, if you want an angry face, you can search "angry" and it shows you all the angry faces available.

I recommend you this tool because it is very easy to use, you have a lot of options so the first time you can spend some time investigating the tool and the possibilities that you have, but it is worth it. I think it is a very interesting tool to introduce to our students because it is a different way to express their feellings, ideas, thoughts...  and develop their creativity. In my opinion it is sure for them and it is an interesting resource that I will use in the future as teacher and let the students the opportunity to use it.
